FINANCES & INSURANCE

Mobile women come from a wide variety of economic backgrounds. Whether struggling to survive on SSDI or dealing with a financial settlement, we must be financially savvy, especially in today's struggling economy. It is critical to be aware of our options and rights especially when it comes to medical insurance.

Medical coverage is complicated. Not only does each policy have different regulations, but within each program the rules can change. An uncertain political climate, progressive disability, debates over coverage for treatments and equipment make health insurance time-consuming and frustrating. More often than not, it is a mess of never-ending red tape!

mobileWOMEN.org understands the seriousness of sound financial management for women in wheelchairs. We will post up-to-date articles and advice on insurance coverage and financial planning from experts in these fields. Strategies for dealing with insurance companies and information on your rights also will be covered. Making informed financial decisions is a critical step in strengthening your independence and maintaining high quality health coverage and care.

In a two-part series, mobileWOMEN examines the lives of women in wheelchairs who, with great ambition, courage and determination, show us that disability doesn't necessarily render these facets of employment mutually exclusive. Through volunteerism, each woman has found her calling, demonstrating that, when we do our part to help others, we reap some of life’s greatest rewards. Read more...
